Oschell’s One-Hitter Leads Impact to Victory in Spokane
SPOKANE - Nolan Oschell tossed a brilliant one-hitter and Nick Karvandi drilled a key RBI triple to lead the Missoula Impact Baseball Club to a 3-1 victory over the Mt. Spokane Wild at the Spokane 4th of July Wood Bat Tournament at Mt. Spokane High School on July 6.
Oschell turned in a brilliant performance in his second start after being sidelined with a hamstring injury for two weeks in June. The imposing right-hander mixed his pitches well and had good command of his breaking stuff, allowing six hits, two walks, and striking out seven. Hunter Johns picked up the save with the final two outs in the seventh inning thanks to a sparkling double play on a rundown by freshman third baseman Matthew Doty.
Missoula only scratched out three hits in the game, but Karvandi came up big when it mattered. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Dillon Gunlock was hit by a pitch. With two outs and two strikes, Karvandi drilled a rocket line drive RBI triple drive to right field, then scored on a wild pitch.
Sawyer Tackett roped a line drive single and lined out, Landin Ramsay had a single, and Kody Evans laced an opposite field single. Impact was without its leading hitter, Cole Smith, with a hamstring injury.
